Minuetto Music Festival Presents 'The Merry Widow" Beginning June 26

SUMMIT, NJ - The sixth annual Minuetto Music Festival, a production of The Continuo Arts Foundation, will take place the week of June 26-July 1..The Young Artist Red Carpet Showcase , by invitation only, will take place June 29 at the Grand Summit Hotel, with the legendary lodge located at 570 Springfield Avenue serving as the event's title sponsor of the Festival. The Finale Concert will be held July 1, at 7:30 p.m., at Central Presbyterian Church, located at 70 Maple St, Summit

The Milton Cross Young Artist Showcase aims to identify young vocalists with a bright future. Young artists winners are selected for two levels of awards; The Milton Cross Award Winners and the Rising Star Winners. The Milton Cross Award honors the famed radio announcer from the Metropolitan Opera, Milton Cross.

“Mr. Cross was dedicated to promoting the careers of young performers, and The Continuo Arts Foundation is pleased to honor Mr. Cross by naming the young artist program, The Milton Cross Young Artist Showcase,” said Candace Wicke, Artistic Director , Cross, Great uncle to Summit’s former mayor Janet Whitman, was the original “voice” of the Met for 43 years until his passing in 1975.

Selected from applicants who hail from across the country and Canada, Minuetto Young Artists will have the opportunity to perform on the Red Carpet Showcase as well as be featured soloists in Franz Lehar’s “The Merry Widow” with Miami Lyric Opera’s Dr. Beverly Coulter, conductor.

Throughout the week-long festival, winners will take part in a variety of master classes, workshops, coachings and rehearsals at the Continuo Arts Conservatory of Music, located at 36 Chatham Road. Local choristers can join the Minuetto Festival Choir by calling 908-264-5324, registration forms are also available by visiting  continuoarts.com/minuettomusicfestival.

As a result of their participation in the competition and the Minuetto Music Festival, prior seasons’ artists have gone on to performance opportunities such as the Chicago Lyric Opera, Miami’s Riunite Opera, teaching and conducting positions and other openings garnered from the connections and introductions made. Throughout the festival, conductors, choir directors, artists’ representatives and others who employ and promote young artists are invited and attend the festival concerts.

Invitations are required for the Young Artist Showcase on June 29. The July 1 Finale Concert is open to all and admission is free, with donations accepted at the door. For more information call 908-264-5324 or visit continuoarts.com.

Spring Art Show Displays Students' Creativity

CRANFORD - The Cranford High School Spring Art Show was held at the Cranford Public Library, on Tuesday. 

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., artwork from classes such as crafts, graphic design, photography, and drawing was on display for the public to promote the creative and unique projects done by students throughout the school year.
