CRANFORD - Cranford High School junior starting strong safety Nate Caldwell has been named the Week 8 Mid-State 38 Defensive Player of the Week by NJ.com
Each week, the NJ.com football staff recognizes some of the more outstanding individual performances in the state’s six football conferences. NJ.com wrote:
Coming off a loss to North Hunterdon, Cranford was going to need big performances in all areas Saturday in its effort to upend powerhouse Summit and secure a spot in the North, Group 4 playoffs. Caldwell did his part and a bit more defensively with eight tackles and two sacks to bolster that unit and help the Cougars to a 35-20 victory over the reigning North 2, Group 3 champion. Cranford earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming North 1, Group 4 playoffs. “He did everything we asked this week and has all year,” said Cranford coach Erik Rosenmeir. “We gave him multiple man coverages and run fit assignments and he was right every time.”
Fifth-seeded Cranford (5-3) will need another strong performance from Caldwell this weekend when they take on fourth-seeded Irvington (6-3) on the road in the first round of the North 1, Group 4 playoffs on Saturday at 4 p.m.
