WESTFIELD, NJ — Residents were able to escape safely Monday afternoon when a fire broke out at their single-family home on Tice Place near Mohawk Way, according to police.

Around 2 p.m. flames could be seen shooting through the roof. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:43 p.m., Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said.

Firefighters from Linden, Springfield, Cranford and Roselle were among the departments on the scene providing mutual aid.

The cause of the fire was not yet known.
