ELIZABETH, NJ - Playball for Miracles, a non-profit sponsor of softball tournaments as fund-raisers for children’s hospitals, is looking for donations for its Chinese Auction/Tricky Tray Nov. 13.

“We are looking for donations from local businesses, merchandise, gift certificates or even monetary,” said Erin Kelly-McGuinness, chief coordinator. “All proceeds from the event will be put with funds raised from the May Softball Tournament and donated to Children's Miracle Network for use at Children's Specialized Hospital.”

Playball for Miracles began in 2005 when the son of Kelly-McGuinness’s friend was diagnosed with a platelet disorder. The six all-male teams raised a few thousand dollars. By 2010, 40 male and coed teams, some from out of state, participated. To date, the organization has raised more than $120,000 for Children’s Specialized Hospital through Children’s Miracle Network and $25,000 for the families of firefighters, EMS, and police officers who have children with special needs.
