Police Blotter: Subject Arrested for Eluding Police Following High-Speed Chase & Accident

Arrested: Danyka Leavitt, 25, Newark

Arrested by:  Ptl. Brian Lopez

Charges:  Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks:  A 2003 Toyota was stopped at the intersection of Centennial Avenue @ Myrtle Street for a seatbelt violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Pt. Lopez located marijuana inside the vehicle.  The driver, Danyka Leavitt, was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  Additionally, Leavitt was issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to wear a seatbelt.

Chestnut Street @ High Street

Arrested:  Brian Hebert Jr., 31, Kenilworth

Arrested by: Ptl. Matthew Siessel

Charges:  Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks:  Patrol Units responded to the rear of a Chestnut St. business, on a report of an individual ingesting a controlled dangerous substance, specifically marijuana.  Upon arriving on scene, Ptl. Siessel located an individual matching the description provided by the caller.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Siessel located marijuana on the individual, Brian Hebert.  Hebert was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.

 

3.  08/26/2017 @ 12:58 a.m.

E. South Avenue @ S. Union Avenue

Arrested: Dayshawn Mingo, 18, Newark

Arrested by:  Ptl. James Knight

Charges: Eluding

Remarks: On 08/26/2017 @ 0058hrs., Ptl. Knight attempted to stop a 2014 Nissan in the area of E. South Avenue @ S. Union Avenue.  As Ptl. Knight was walking up to the vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed toward Garwood.  Ptl. Knight began to pursue the vehicle, but quickly terminated the pursuit due to the danger to the public.  After several minutes, the vehicle was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Westfield.  The driver, Dayshawn Mingo, was apprehended by Union County Police officers.  Ptl. Knight could positively identify Mingo as the individual who was operating the motor vehicle which fled from Knight.  Mingo was arrested, processed, and released after being charged with Eluding.  Mingo was also issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, failure to signal, improper passing, failure to obey traffic signal, and failure to maintain lane.

 

4.  08/28/2017 @ 7:54 p.m.

GSP 137 NB @ E. North Avenue

Arrested: Randy Lyon, 27, Union

Arrested by: Det. Spencer Durkin

Charges: Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks:  A 2001 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of E. North Avenue @ GSP NB 137 Ramp for a seatbelt violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Det. Durkin located a pipe, commonly used to ingest cocaine, on a passenger, Randy Lyndon.  Lyndon was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  Additionally, Lyndon was issued a motor vehicle summonses for failing to wear a seatbelt.

 

5.  08/30/2017 @11:01 p.m.

E. South Avenue @ Thomas Street

Arrested: Jacob O’Connell, 19, Roselle Park

Arrested by: Ptl. Brian Trotter

Charges: Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks:  A 2003 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of E. South Avenue @ Thomas Street for a red-light violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Trotter located marijuana inside the vehicle.  The driver, Jacob O’Connell, was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  O’Connell was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failing to exhibit documents, failing to stop at a red traffic signal, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

 

6.  08/30/2017 @ 5:58 p.m.

Centennial Avenue @ E. North Avenue

Arrested:  Matthew DiMarco, 29, Cranford

Arrested by: Det. Spencer Durkin

Charges:  Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Heroin and Cocaine); Possession of Paraphernalia; Receiving Stolen Property

Remarks:  In response to a recent rash of bicycle thefts at the Cranford Train Station, Det. Spencer Durkin was conducting an undercover surveillance detail.  During this detail, Det. Durkin observed an individual operating a bicycle which he believed to have been reported stolen a week earlier.  Upon stopping the bicyclist, Matthew DiMarco, it was determined that the bicycle was indeed stolen on 08/26/2017 from South Avenue.  DiMarco was also found to be in possession of cocaine and heroin.  DiMarco was arrested, processed, and released pending a Superior Court appearance.

 

7.  08/31/2017 @ 7:50 p.m.

GSP NB 137

Arrested: Patrick Giannetta, 38, Parsippany

Charges: Possession of a Hypodermic Syringe

Remarks: A 2002 Acura was stopped at the intersection of E. North Avenue @ GSP 137 NB Ramp for an equipment violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Gerrity located multiple hypodermic syringes inside the vehicle.  The driver, Patrick Giannetta, was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  Giannetta was also issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to maintain lamps.
 

8.  09/01/2017 @ 2:03 a.m.

E. South Avenue @ E. Lincoln Avenue

Arrested: Thomas Dreissig, 27, Linden

Arrested by: Ptl. Jason D’Agostino

Charges: Driving While Intoxicated

Remarks: A 2005 Jeep was stopped at the intersection of E. South Avenue @ E. Lincoln Avenue for an equipment violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. D’Agostino, determined that the driver, Thomas Dreissig, was operating the motor vehicle while intoxicated.  Dreissig was arrested, processed, and released to a family pending a Municipal Court appearance.  Dreissig was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, failing to maintain lamps, and failure to inspect a motor vehicle.

 

9.  09/03/2017 @ 7:55 p.m.

E. South Avenue @ High Street

Arrested: Christion Collins, 18, Rahway

Arrested by:  Ptl. Shayne Temple

Charges: Possession of Marijuana(under 50g); Possession of Paraphernalia

Remarks:  A 2011 Nissan was stopped at the intersection of E. South Avenue @ High Street for an equipment violation.  Following an investigation at the scene, Ptl. Temple located marijuana inside the vehicle.  A passenger, Christion Collins, was arrested, processed, and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.  The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for having unclear plates.
