The Rahway River Association was established in 1992 to protect and restore the Rahway River. “Watershed” was added to the Association’s name to acknowledge that the health of the river depends on the environmental quality of the land that feeds it (its watershed). The Rahway River watershed encompasses parts of 24 municipalities in Essex, Union, and Middlesex Counties, (Carteret, Clark, Cranford, Edison, Fanwood, Garwood, Kenilworth, Linden, Maplewood, Metuchen, Millburn, Mountainside, Orange, Plainfield, Rahway, Scotch Plains, Springfield, South Orange, Summit, Westfield, West Orange, Winfield Park, Woodbridge & Union) totaling over 80 square miles.

The Rahway River Watershed Association (RRWA) partners with civic organizations, businesses, and other environmental non-profits to organize stewardship activities like installing rain gardens, flood plain restoration, river cleanups, and recreational and educational activities such as hikes, lectures, nature photography walks, kayak trips and much more.

The RRWA’s 25th Anniversary Gala, to be held on December 6th, will be a fun-filled evening honoring two important people: Andrew Voros, who was instrumental in establishing the organization as a non-profit 25 years ago, and New Jersey Assemblyman James Kennedy, for his role in supporting the fledgling organization. Both individuals are strong advocates for the environment and deserve to be recognized for their efforts. The Gala, to be held at the Cranford Social, 220 South Avenue East in Cranford, celebrates the past, and lays a foundation for the Association’s future. For more information, and to attend the Gala, visit their website at www.rahwayriver.org where invitations and other material are available for download. Call 908-892-7229 for more information.
