CRANFORD, NJ - The eighth grade students of St. Michael School initiated a project of a clothing drive for the needy in Ukraine.  The students solicited the support of the school community, then used their daily recess to sort through the hundreds of articles of clothing that were donated.

On Monday Jan. 18, five students joined the Charitable Program at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Newark to pack the donations.  A total of twenty-two large boxes of clothing were prepared for shipping, approximately weighing 1000 pounds. This clothing will be of great help to the handicapped, the poor and the many refugees that have fled war torn eastern Ukraine to the country’s western cities.

St. John's Ukrainian Church commended St. Michael’s for encouraging such projects, "We are confident that children who are taught to be understanding and generous will grow up to be wonderful caring adults of great benefit to their communities."
