The JCC of Central NJ Receives One of 22 Making Music Happen Grants

The JCC of Central NJ in Scotch Plains is one of 22 JCCs across North America to receive a grant from JCC Association (JCCA) of North America in honor of its 2017 Centennial Celebration. The grant is intended to enable JCCs to create music projects tailored to their community’s interests and needs and is funded by Marvin J. Pertzik, a former JCCA board member, in cooperation with the Mary Livingston Griggs and Mary Griggs Burke Foundation.

The JCC will host a monthly daytime program for participants to connect with their Jewish roots through music.   Genres such as klezmer, folk, jazz and tributes to Yiddish theater will be explored.  The first program, A Land That is Free for You and Me with Fred Miller is on Tuesday, January 24 at 11:15 a.m.   Miller will give insight into Jewish songwriters who gave voice to the American dream and will perform their music.

“We are thrilled and honored to have received a Making Music Happen grant from JCCA.  This grant is allowing us to reach even more adults and expand our successful music appreciation program by funding new artists and musical programs that will engage, enrich and entertain our community,” said Jennifer Mamlet, JCC Executive Director.

“Arts help us to explain, understand and connect to our world, and they’re an integral part of what all JCCs do,” Randy Ellen Lutterman, JCCA’s VP of Arts and Culture, said. “We wanted JCCs to see how their own story fit into this beautiful, continental mosaic of the JCC Movement and we thank Marvin Pertzik for creating a way to make this happen.”

Proud to support Tom Malinowski for Congress

March 8, 2018

Every single day, whether I want to be or not, I am reminded how important it is that Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November and check Donald Trump. Fortunately, there is a terrific candidate in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District who can beat incumbent Leonard Lance. That candidate is Tom Malinowski.

I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident -- including ...
