WESTFIELD, NJ — The selection has been made and the roster formalized for the Friends of the New Jersey Festival Orchetra’s 2017 Tour of Notable Homes, taking place Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This local springtime tradition started in 1984 to support the New Jersey Festival Orchestra (then known as the Westfield Symphony), based in Downtown Westfield.

“The tour is a much-anticipated local tradition when owners of some of the area’s finest homes generously throw open their doors to the public,” Samantha Altieri, 2017 home tour co-chair, said.

Home enthusiasts are expected to flock to this popular residential showcase featuring a sampling of the area’s most remarkable properties, including a gracious 19th Century home and a Mediterranean-style villa.

“There is a wide diversity of outstanding architecture and stylish décor in our community which must be seen to be fully appreciated,” tour co-chair Michelle Pierce said.

TAPinto Westfield got a sneak peek of one of this year’s featured houses on Kimball Avenue.

This family-centric home is nestled in the highly sought-after Wychwood area and features a combination of sophisticated design and functional family space. Unique to this home is a spacious art room reserved for play, work and creativity, something homeowner Miriam Silver Verga — an accomplished interior designer — encourages among her four daughters.

Proceeds from the event support the NJFO, including their educational outreach and music therapy programs, which bring the joy of music to underserved populations and offer music therapy to patients at hospitals and hospices.

“The home tour is a key element of the funding mix that’s necessary to operate the orchestra,” said NJFO Music Director David Wroe. “Supplemental fundraising is critical because only about a third of our revenue comes from the sale of tickets.”

All homes on the tour will have live music provided by young musicians from the Junior Musical Club in Westfield and tour-goers can participate in a luxury basket raffle, door prizes and local vendor experiences including the opportunity to “Win a Tesla for the Day.” (Winner need not be present to win.)

The tour is self-guided and takes two to three hours. Homes may be visited in no specific order between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  All tickets include the addresses of the homes on tour.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $35 on the NJFO website or in person at Baron’s Drugs and Town Book Store in Downtown Westfield. Tickets will cost $40 on day of tour.
