WESTFIELD, NJ —  Amid cheers from employees and customers, the Downtown Westfield’s newly re-built Trader Joe’s opened Friday morning at 8 a.m.

The previous building was demolished this in February after its roof collapsed during January’s blizzard.

“It’s so great to be home,” store manager Casey Latsko said as he greeted people at the door. “We want to thank our customers for their loyalty and patience.”

The new store boasts 50 percent more registers, higher ceilings and beautiful artwork created by Trader Joe’s “crew members,” Latsko noted. Murals on the walls include shout-outs to Westfield’s own Addam’s Family creator Charles Addams and Mindowaskin Park.

“And, of course, we have all of the wonderful new products,” Latsko said. The layout is “comparable” to that of the previous store, he said.

Denise Ayre of Clark, who arrived at 7:30 a.m., was the first in line.

When the store is open, “I’m probably here once a week, once every-other week,” Ayre said. “I’ve never had a bad thing here. The customer service is wonderful.”

“We love Trader Joe’s,” shouted another woman as she walked to the back of a line that was beginning to snake around the parking lot. “We’re obsessed with this store. Absolutely obsessed.”

Trader Joe’s is located at 155 Elm St.

Scutari vs Mahr

February 16, 2018

I read with interest in a local newspaper regarding the Union county democrat party political infighting for their “county chair” selection.  There were 2 letters juxtaposed, each one listing supporters of either Senator Scutari or Fanwood Mayor Mahr, who are the two main people vying for the “boss” position.

Although I am a democrat I am not a committee ...
