Elizabeth, NJ - The Union County Fatherhood Initiative Coalition (UCFIC) recently honored Dr. Barry Levinson, Medical Director of the Trinitas Comprehensive Care Center, at their Sixth Annual Union County Fatherhood Breakfast Conference recently to raise awareness of the far-reaching impact of fatherhood on the quality of life in the community.  The theme of the event was "Healthy Fathers-Healthy Families."

At the event, Dr. Levinson, a South Orange resident, was presented with the Community Service Award for his long-standing commitment to improving the role and lives of men and fathers. For the past five years, he has been a key advisor and health consultant for the UCFIC.  During that time, he has provided workshops on topics related to men's health, including prostate cancer, diabetes, weight loss and blood pressure, and more.

Dr. Levinson, who specializes in Hematology/Oncology and recently appeared on a list of NJ's Top Cancer Doctors, said, "In general, there isn't enough emphasis on the impact a man can have on his family's health.  While we look more to the women in our lives for nurturing, there's much to be gained from a father maintaining an equally strong role when it comes to the health and wellness of a family unit and how the state of their health affects everyone around them.  If a father exhibits concern for his health and takes it seriously, he is leading by example.  He is also in a better position to be a caregiver rather than one who needs extra care himself."
