ELIZABETH, NJ - Trinitas Regional Medical Center has earned national recognition for its commitment to the health of its employees, especially when it comes to helping them stop smoking.

The hospital has earned CEO Cancer Gold Standard re-accreditation for offering its employees programs including a one-time reimbursement to those who successfully complete smoking cessation counseling.

“It is gratifying to have our employee health initiatives recognized with this national award,” said Trinitas President and CEO Gary S. Horan in a statement. “Trinitas also participates in several national initiatives including American Heart Association’s National Walking Day and American Cancer Society’s Great American Smoke Out. We’re proud to have upheld these standards and will continue to improve conditions that prevent cancer risks within and around our campus.”

Trinitas offers employees an on-site fitness facility and discounted health care services. The hospital also offers one-time reimbursement for prescription drugs or patches to further help employees end smoking, The reimbursement also extends to laser or acupuncture treatment.

The Occupational Medicine/Employee Health Department provides one-on-one smoking cessation counseling for any Trinitas employee. A Smoke-Free Campus Committee, chaired by Trinitas Clinical Operations Vice President Dr. Nancy DiLiegro, has developed additional resources and spreads the word around each campus that Trinitas is a tobacco-free zone.

The CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization of CEOs which was founded by former President George H.W. Bush, created the Gold Standard to recognize employers who go above and beyond for health and wellness measures on behalf of their employees.

To earn Gold Standard accreditation, an employer must take actions to reduce the risk and burden of cancer, including prohibiting tobacco use, supporting smoking cessation and promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition.

The employer must also support the needs of cancer survivors in the workplace and provide health insurance options that include detecting cancer at early stages and access to participation in cancer clinical trials.

Proud to support Tom Malinowski for Congress

March 8, 2018

Every single day, whether I want to be or not, I am reminded how important it is that Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November and check Donald Trump. Fortunately, there is a terrific candidate in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District who can beat incumbent Leonard Lance. That candidate is Tom Malinowski.

I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident -- including ...
