Frederick L. Olmsted (1822-1903), considered an urban park visionary and the father of landscape architecture, created inner city landscapes such as Central Park and Prospect Park as a much needed respite for city dwellers. His designs brought an oasis of peace and tranquility and the beauty of nature into the midst of urban living.
Olmsted's vision can be found in parks and greenways throughout America, including here in Union County. The Olmsted firm was hired early on by the Union County Park Commission to design the park system made up of the Rahway River Parkway and other parklands.
Join us for an informative and fascinating talk on Union County's Olmsted legacy. Learn about the significance of preserving Rahway River Parkway and its surrounding parklands impacting corresponding communities, and why preservation is so important for our community and generations to come.
