CRANFORD - Congratulations to this week's Vinny's Pizza & Pasta Cranford Senior Athletes of the Week: Morrigan Gardiner and Luke DiGiovanni.
Gardiner will begin her senior season on the Cranford softball team next week and will likely be in circle against Summit in the season-opener on Monday. Due to COVID-19, there was no spring sports in 2020, but as a sophomore in 2019, Gardiner went 12-6 with three no-hitters in circle for the Cougars. She tossed 108 innings and allowed 45 runs (32 earned) on 44 hits while striking out 162. Gardiner also helped her cause at the plate with 33 hits and a .524 batting average, which included two home runs, two triples, six doubles, and 15 RBI. In November of 2020, she signed her national letter of intent to continue her softball career at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
DiGiovanni is currently competing at the Wrestling Regions (138 pounds) and last week was named the Union County Conference Wrestler of the Week. Prior to entering Regions, DiGiovanni had a record of 9-1, and in his last match, he took a 22-second pinfall victory over Jaden Castro of Plainfield. He has committed to continue his career on the mat at NYU next year.
