EDISON, NJ -- The Wardlaw + Hartridge School in Edison held its inaugural Shakespeare Recitation Competition on Feb. 23 in the Oakwood Room. Six Upper School performers memorized and performed a monologue or soliloquy from one of William Shakespeare's 39 plays. Students were judged on three elements: understanding, expression and communication.
CJ Stueck of Scotch Plains prevailed as the winner of a very tight competition. Other competitors included Claire Stout of Maplewood, Matangi Melpakkam of Piscataway, Kallie Schildge of Westfield, Mayah Nissim of Scotch Plains and Ariana Di Landro of Elizabeth.
Stueck will move on to the county competition on March 3 at the Brookdale Community College theater.
