Wardlaw-Hartridge Begins School Year with 135th Convocation Ceremony

EDISON, NJ -- The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison kicked off its 135th year with the annual Convocation Ceremony in Laidlaw Gym on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Lower and Middle School Students entered the gym with their teachers, smiling and eager to begin the new school year. The Upper School students marched in behind their respective class flags and were accompanied by their advisors.

The Class of 2018, this year's seniors, made a grand entrance for their final Convocation ceremony. Class president Cathy Bi of Edison and vice president Suraj Chandran of Edison led the senior class into Laidlaw Gym. CJ Stueck of Scotch Plains, the school’s Student Council President, led the W-H student body in the Pledge of Allegiance and MadJazz joined selected W-H students to sing America the Beautiful.

Andrew Webster of Edison, Head of School, welcomed the students, faculty, staff and parents to the ceremony. Mr. Webster gave special recognition to the 95 new students and families who have joined the W-H community. 

Rob Rizzo of Scotch Plains, the President of the Board of Trustees, spoke about some inspirational Wardlaw-Hartridge alumni and teachers and the positive impact they have made on his life. CJ Stueck encouraged the student body to take advantage of the clean slate of a new school year and to try new things to make the most of their experience. Mr. Webster concluded the program by wishing everyone a wonderful school year.
