CRANFORD - On Wed., Nov. 16, 2016, the Lady Owls jumped out to a 19 point lead early in the first quarter, and went on to beat Monroe College (NY) by a score of 81-73. Both teams battled in the first half, with Union maintaining a double digit lead at the half. Monroe came out firing in the third quarter, bringing them within 3 points. The game was back and forth throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters until the Lady Owls pulled ahead for good, beating a very solid Monroe women’s basketball team.
Union had four players score in double figures during the game. Acestra Robinson (Newark) led the way with 23 points hitting 50% of her field goal attempts. Close behind in scoring was Francesca Cherasaro (North Plainfield) with 21 points, Kiante Johnson (Jersey City) and Afeni Robinson (Hillside) each finished with 12 apiece.
The next home game for the Lady Owls will be played against Valley Forge Military College at 12 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 19, 2016, in the Gym at the Cranford campus.
