CRANFORD - Fettle Market, a 100% gluten and dairy free health food store located at 34 North Avenue West in Cranford (formerly Jungle Juice), opened for business on Tuesday.
The Cranford location is owner Amanda Vargas' second storefront. She opened her first location, Fettle + Fare (403 West Broad Street in Westfield) back in May of 2017. Despite the close-proximity, Vargas said the support she's seen from Cranford residents at the Westfield location made her decision a no-brainer.
Vargas was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007 at the age of 21. She had trouble walking and numerous other symptoms that challenged her daily life. After four years of struggles, Amanda learned about diet changes like cutting out gluten and dairy to manage her symptoms, and very quickly saw a drastic improvement in her health. Along the way, she saw others struggling with the same problems and her business vision was born.
"I saw people needed options," said Vargas. "There aren't many places that they can eat where they don't have to worry about cross-contamination. Here, they can have anything in the store."
Fettle Market offers a plethora of options such as prepared meals, wraps, drinks, snacks, but Vargas says they are most popular for their bone broths and soups, specifically the chicken soup and grass-fed beef chili.
If you are looking to navigate new dietary needs such as a food allergy or health restriction, Vargas says she and her staff are here to help and answer questions. The market's winter and spring hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
