CRANFORD, NJ – Republican Michael Petrucci will challenge Democrat incumbent Thomas Hannen, Jr. in Cranford’s township committee election this year, according to the township clerk’s office. The candidates are vying for a three-year term.

Hannen, who announced his plans to run for reelection on his Facebook page last month, has served on the township committee for five years. He was selected by the committee to serve as mayor in 2013, 2017 and 2018.

Petrucci previously ran against Hannen in the 2015 election. He has held seats on the Cranford Planning Board and the zoning board of adjustments.

Monday was the last day for Democratic and Republican candidates who wish to run in the June 5 primary election to file a petition. Other candidates could still be announced, as independent candidates have until June 5 to file a petition.
