WESTFIELD, NJ — Buona Pizza took home first place Sunday at the Westfield Area YMCA’s third annual Pizza Palooza Sunday, when 300 people tasted and voted on their favorite slices from  participating Westfield, Garwood and Mountainside businesses.

Roma Pizza came in second place, just two votes behind. Roma and Buona have both won first place at  past Pizza Paloozas. Newcomer Outta Hand Pizza came in third place Sunday. Other businesses that donated their time and pizzas were Vine Ripe Markets, Casa di Pizza, Ferraro’s, Gennaro’s, Mama’s and Rudy’s.

A $12 contribution per ticket from the event will benefit the Y’s Annual Support Campaign, which ensures that no one who is experiencing a bona fide financial hardship and lives or works in Westfield, Cranford, Garwood or Mountainside is turned away for inability to pay for Y programs or memberships. The majority of awards enable participation in the Y’s early learning, school age and summer day camp programs.

The event accommodated 100 more people than last year’s and sold out once again.

“We’re gonna need a bigger gym,” organizer and Assistant Aquatic Director Sharon London joked. “It’s a great community event. I just had a girl who said it was her birthday today. Her mom asked her wat she wanted to do. She said, ‘Go to Pizza Palooza.”

Westfield Area YMCA Aquatic Director Rob Faggiano announced the winners and thanked all of the pizzerias for their participation.

“This wouldn’t be possible without our local businesses,” he said.

Proud to support Tom Malinowski for Congress

Every single day, whether I want to be or not, I am reminded how important it is that Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives in November and check Donald Trump. Fortunately, there is a terrific candidate in New Jersey's 7th Congressional District who can beat incumbent Leonard Lance. That candidate is Tom Malinowski.

I'm a lifelong New Jersey resident -- including ...
