CRANFORD - When Jack Tagmouti visited 100 Steps Supper Club, he knew he wanted to make it his.
"I was looking to purchase a restaurant for about a year or so and then my broker called me and said he knows of a place that's going to be the right fit for me," said Tagmouti. "I told him that I love seafood and raw bar, so this was perfect. I wanted a nice, elegant place. He told me to try the place to see what I thought about it, so I came in, had a dinner, and fell in love immediately. From the food to the atmosphere and the positive vibes, as soon as I left, I called my broker from the parking lot and said let's move forward."
On April 10 of 2017, Tagmouti officially purchased the 100 Steps Supper Club and transformed it into 100 Steps Kitchen + Raw Bar. Prior to the purchase, Tagmouti had been in the restaurant business for 19 years with his previous stop serving as Manager and Director of Events at The Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick.
Originally, 100 Steps focused on tapas and small bites but Tagmouti decided to elevate the menu to feature more entrees. Tagmouti describes his restaurant as New American Cuisine focused on seafood and says his seafood is the freshest you can get.
"We have true dayboat shrimp, true dayboat halibut, true dayboat scallops," said Tagmouti. You cannot call a dish true dayboat unless that particular item you are using comes directly from the boat to your restaurant and it has to be in less than eight hours."
100 Steps' menu consists of eight different oysters delivered daily, six east coast and two west coast. Tagmouti believes his restaurant goes the extra mile by giving the customers options along with a complete description of each option from the size to where it came from, to what it tastes like. There is also no minimum to each order. You can order six of one kind or one of each.
"Whatever is the best and freshest out there is what we get," added Tagmouti.
