ELIZABETH, NJ - Residents of the Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health Programs chose gifts from under the Christmas tree at Trinitas Regional Medical Center during the ninth Annual Three Kings Day Celebration organized by Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Union) earlier this month at Trinitas.
The day commemorates the Three Wise Men who gave the baby Jesus gifts during the height of the Christmas season. Donations are collected from the community to make sure the children of Trinitas experience a joyful holiday season with plenty of gifts. The children, ages 3 to 18, are patients in the adolescent residential program, the inpatient pediatric behavioral health program and the outpatient pediatric behavioral health program at Trinitas.
"Each year, this heartwarming event enriches the lives of these children," said Quijano. "Many of them live at the hospital and don't have the opportunity to celebrate the holidays at home. I'm thankful that, with the help of our generous sponsors, we were able to bring a little holiday joy to these children."
Those who attended and offered their support included: Elizabeth’s Mayor Chris Bollwage, Senator Joe Cryan, Elizabeth Firefighters FMBA Local 9, NJ FMBA, NJ State PBA, State Troopers Fraternal Association of New Jersey, National Coalition of Latino Officers, Hispanic Law Enforcement Association of Union County, Historic Midtown Elizabeth Special Improvement District, and the Union County Sheriff's Office among others.
“We know the children look forward to it every day, but we enjoy it just as much,” says Nadine Brechner, Chief Development Officer and Vice President of the Trinitas Health Foundation, whose enthusiasm seems to grow each year.
Both Brechner and Quijano are grateful to the sponsors, donors, community groups and everyone who contributed to the day and helped make it a success. Their generosity makes it possible.
In addition to the gifts given to the children at Trinitas, Quijano and sponsors also provided a ping-pong table, karaoke machine, musical instruments, exercise equipment, and other items for use in their therapy and playrooms.
