CRANFORD - Following the departures of Daniel Demarco and Cathy Sheridan, Terry Darling and Brian McCarthy officially took their seats on the Cranford Board of Education at Monday's Reorganization Meeting.

While Darling and McCarthy are new to the Board, William Hulse and Maria Loikith retained their seats in the November election. McCarthy won the one, one-year unexpired seat while Darling, Hulse, and Loikith won the three, three-year appointments.

"I thought about running for the Board of Ed. five years ago," said Darling. "I think full day Kindergarten is important and I think that a town that has a school district this good, we just can't be the best suburban school district without it, and that's what we're trying to build for our kids."

"I was given the opportunity to help the kids out of Cranford and I took them up on it and here I am," said McCarthy. "Right now I'm looking forward to working on the Reimagining Cranford Proposal and it's obviously going to be a challenge but it's going to be fun."

Also at the meeting, Kurt Petschow and Lisa Carbone won the nomination for Board President and Vice President, respectively. This will be Petchow and Carbone's fourth year serving the positions.
