RAHWAY, NJ - Investigators are seeking the public's help in solving the two-year-old murder of a Rahway sneaker entrepreneur, releasing surveillance videos of the two suspects fleeing the scene, Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Monday.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. Tips can be given anonymously.

According to the prosecutor's office, Rahway police responded to a call in the 1500 block of Irving Street around 9:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2016. When police arrived, Jamal Gaines, 21, was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound at his downtown sneaker store "and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter."

The Union County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force, the Rahway Police Department and the Union County Sheriff's Office's Identification Unit found that two individuals with their "faces obscured by fabric" gained entry into Gaines's sneaker story through the rear door.

According to the report, a physical struggle took place before the "fatal shot" was fired. Surveillance video shows the two suspects leaving the rear of the store after the shooting.

The surveillance video below shows one of the suspects exhibiting a pronounced limp. The suspect with the limp appeared to be wearing dark pants, light-colored sneakers, and a dark hooded sweatshirt with a
light-colored patch on the left arm. The other suspect appeared to be wearing a lighter-colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and brown or beige shoes. Both brandished handguns.

The same surveillance tape is shown in slow motion below.

"The investigation into the death of Mr. Gaines remains highly active, with tips continuing to be submitted and checked to this day," according to the Monahan report.

Anyone with information about the shooting still is being urged to contact Homicide Task Force Sgt. MichaelM anochio at 908-966- 2287 or Sgt. Sofia Santos at 908-577- 4256.

The Union County Crime Stoppers also are continuing to offer a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case; tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654- TIPS (8477), via text message by texting “UCTIP” plus a message to 274637
