CRANFORD - The Cranford Fire Department responded to a house fire on Shadowlawn Way shortly before 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to Cranford Fire Chief Daniel Czeh, the department was already operating at another scene in town when they noticed a column on smoke in the air near Lincoln Avenue. A 911 call reported a fire on Shadowlawn Way and the Cranford Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.

The fire began in the rear of the Shadowlawn Way home and spread into the garage, resulting in the department having to cut a hole in the roof to stop the flames, said Chief Czeh. All members of the household that were home at the time made it out of the house in time, according to Chief Czeh. The fire was contained in roughly an hour, said Chief Czeh.
