Avenel Liquor Store ‘Holdup Man’ Pleads Guilty

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A Union County man has pleaded guilty to his role in gunpoint robberies at over a dozen liquor stores, including the 2018 holdup at the Wine Chateau in Avenel.

Jaime Fontanez, 45, of Elizabeth, pleaded guilty in Newark federal court last week to a slew of conspiracy and robbery charges, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.
