ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Cranford High School had two wrestlers represent the program at the 2018 NJSIAA Individual Wrestling State Championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Juniors AJ Bencivenga (145 pounds) and Rob Schork (220 pounds) qualified for the state tournament third and second, respectively, in their weight class at last weekend’s NJSIAA Region 4 tournament.

After losing his opening round match on Friday night, Bencivenga rallied for three straight wins in the consolation bracket to set up a “do or die” bout with Hackettstown’s Alex Carida.

Needing a victory to secure a spot in the medal rounds, Bencivenga dropped a 7-2 decision and was eliminated from the tournament.

Schork wasn’t as lucky as his Cougar counterpart. Wrestling in the 220-pound bracket, Schork lost each of his first two matches, including an opening round pin, leading to his early exit.

Bencivenga closes his junior campaign with a 30-9 record, while Schork ends the year at 22-10.
