CRANFORD - Congratulations to this week's Cranford High School Athletes of the Week, Maggie Murray and Harry Devenney.
Murray, who just finished up her senior season on the girls varsity soccer team, was named a 2019 Top 20 player in North Jersey Section 2 and a Top 20 player statewide by the New Jersey Girls Soccer Coaches Association.
Murray led her team this season with 19 goals and 15 assists and for the second year in a row, she was named the Union County Conference Player of the Year. Some other postseason honors she received included Third Team All-State, First Team All-Group 3, All-Union County Conference, and All-Watchung Division.
Following graduation in June, she will continue her soccer career at the collegiate level at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
"I think every coach wants a player like Maggie on their team. She’s such a quality player. It’s been great to coach Maggie the last four years," said Cranford High School girls soccer head coach Andrew Gagliardo. "Seeing her mature as a person, understand the game at a deeper level, and continue to improve at everything that makes her better has been a privilege. I know she will continue to do good things at Texas A&M Corpus Christi!"
Devenney is a senior goalie for the boys ice hockey team. Prior to Wednesday night, he recorded three straight shutouts and helped lead Cranford to the Union County Tournament semifinals. The Cougars (7-3-2) will next be on the ice at 6:35 p.m. on Monday night against Montclair (8-3-1) at Warinanco Ice Skating Center.
