CRANFORD - Congratulations to this week's Cranford High School Athletes of the Week, Ryan Aszklar and Amanda Newport.

Aszklar, a member of the winter track team, placed second in the State Sectional meet and then topped it off with a Union County Championship with a personal best throw of 51’6”. That throw tied the Cranford High School record, and Aszklar now has his sights set on breaking it.

"I want to break the school record because I want my name next to it," said Aszklar. "I'm just going to keep training with the way coach (Kessler) tells me to. My coach is a really big reason why I'm at the place where I am right now with the regiment he sets and the amount of work we put in."

Newport, also a member of the winter track team, placed fourth in the State Sectional Meet and then followed it up with a sixth place finish in the Union County meet with a personal best throw of 32’6”. She will also be competing at the Group 3 Championships with a chance to qualify for the Meet of Champions.
