CRANFORD, NJ - The Cranford High School Student Council hosted their annual powderpuff game on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Girls from the senior class faced girls from the junior class in a flag football game at Memorial Field. The senior class managed to claim victory by one point, with a 28-27 final score.
“We played really well and we had some great players and coaches,” junior Grace Digiovanni said. “We almost won this year, but next year is ours.”
Olivia Speer and Lauren Williamson both scored for the juniors, with help from quarterbacks Ellie Rokicki and Sasha Knapp. Lindsay Wielgus, Taylor Reitzel and Abigail Ganley scored for the juniors with help from quarterback Gianna Veltre.
Seniors managed to beat out the juniors in the final seconds of the game, when Wielgus scored the final touchdown and Ganley ran the ball into the end zone for the extra point.
“It was so much fun to play football and show the boys what we can do. I’m so proud of the seniors for coming together in the final seconds to claim the win,” Wielgus said.
