CRANFORD - Members of the Cranford Wrestling Alumni donated a check for $2,581.50 to Flag of Cranford on Friday afternoon.
"We wanted to raise money as a team and make one solid donation to Flag," said Robert Bulger, found of Cranford Wrestling Alumni. "We're helping our small businesses, our restaurants, our bars, and by helping them who are producing food and beverages for our frontline workers, we're also supporting police, first aid, and all of that. We had over 45 past wrestlers who donated money, so it was a good thing we were able to do."
The Cranford Wrestling Alumni is comprised of all wrestlers who have put on Cranford singlets or tights and wrestled for the Cranford High School Cougars. There are no dues or fees for membership. According to Bulger, membership is earned on the mats and in the room at Cranford High School.
"Cranford wrestling is a team of action," added Bulger. "When COVID-19 hit, many citizens were left with a choice on what they could do to make a difference. Cranford wrestling has always been built around the concept of hard work, discipline, teamwork, and community."
In making this donation, the Cranford Wrestling Alumni also honors and remembers all the alums who are deceased.
"We remember our coaches, mentors, and brothers who are no longer with us," said Bulger. "Their memory and spirit live on with the alumni and wrestlers today. No Cougar will ever be forgotten. We are family and will carry on with those lost in our hearts forever."
