CRANFORD - Apparently, Cranford goalie Harry Devenney channeled his inner Baker Mayfield and woke up feeling dangerous on Monday.

Devenney recorded 24 saves as Cranford defeated Millburn, 5-0, on Monday night at Warinanco Ice Skating Center.

"I woke up this morning and driving to school I felt good," said Devenney. "I had a good feeling about tonight's game, and we worked through it. I couldn't ask for anything more."

Cranford and Millburn split last year's two regular season matchups, but it was the Millers that got the last laugh as they defeated Cranford 2-1 in the final round of the 2019 Kelly Cup. In their first shot at revenge, Jack Templeton and Jake Icklan led the Cougars' offense on Monday with two goals and an assist each.

"We really had to bounce back from last year, and we didn't know what they were going to bring," said Templeton. "Everybody stepped up and played great. We had tons of passes coming in from our wingers, and we just really played a great game."

"After losing on Saturday (to Verona 5-2), we felt like we had to bounce back, and we had no other choice," added Devenney. "We had to turn the season around because we didn't want it to go downhill after having a hot start."

Jack DeSimone scored Cranford's fifth and final goal. Luke Pachkowski, Matteo Wilde, and Anthony Massoni each finished with two assists.

The Cougars will skate next on Saturday at 5:45 p.m. in their first shot at redemption against Nutley-Columbia at Codey Arena.

"Every game from now on, we have to bring on the momentum, just like today," said Templeton.
