FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood Police Department is currently investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday evening on Second Street near Burns Way at approximately 8:52 p.m., according to Chief Richard Trigo.

The victim told police that he believed he was followed home from the ATM at Wells Fargo Bank on East Second St. and Park Ave. in Scotch Plains by what he believed to be a white Jeep Cherokee. The man realized he was being followed in his car when he turned right on Marian Ave. and then made a left on Second St. in Fanwood.

After the victim parked his car in his driveway and was walking to his house, the driver of the white SUV parked across the street asked for directions. As the victim went over to the vehicle to give directions, the driver jumped out and grabbed him, and the two began to scuffle. A second male exited the back of the SUV and held a gun to the victim's head. Then he hit the victim in the back of the head with the gun. The robbers demanded his money. The victim turned it over, and then the male with the gun hit him in the face with the gun.
