SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – A driver who swerved to avoid an animal slammed her minivan into a tree on Lamberts Mill Road on the Scotch Plains-Westfield border on Monday suffered only minor injuries despite the significant damage done to her vehicle, according to Scotch Plains police chief Ted Conley.

Both the Westfield and Scotch Plains fire departments arrived on the scene to help on Lamberts Mill Road, which forms the border between the two municipalities.

The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Union County Hazmat FMBA Local 99 EMS branch transported two patients for treatment, according to the Westfield Fire Department FMBA Local 30, the labor union that represents the Westfield Fire Department.

The driver's identity has not been released.
