Alexa Forman Joins Horse Park of NJ Board of Directors

STONE TAVERN, NJ — The Horse Park of New Jersey elected a new board member at its annual meeting on June 25.

“I’ve been coming to the Horse Park since I was a very small child,” Forman said before the vote was taken. She said her goal was to increase park membership and using social media to get the word out. “

In her application she wrote:

“I started showing at the Horse Park of New Jersey when I was just a small child, and I met my significant other here in 2011. This is my ‘home base’ of sorts, and I am emotionally invested in seeing it succeed. Being a young equine professional that is heavily involved in many aspects of the industry, I can evaluate issues that the board faces from multiple perspectives – as a competitor, as a trainer, as a business sponsor, as a Horse Park member, and potentially as a board member.”

Forman studied agriculture media and communications in college at West Texas A&M University.

“I am familiar with many of the concerns of the board members, but I am also very familiar with the concerns of active equine professionals in the immediate area around the park. I believe that I can offer solutions to help the board address these issues, and bring back members and shows that we have lost. In addition to bringing back the people we have lost, there are great opportunities to bring in new members and show series’ that are looking for a home,” she wrote.

Forman is a veterinary technician with Garden State Equine Veterinary Dentistry and also owns her own training business, ALF Performance Horses serving .

According to her website, Forman was an active 4-H member in her youth. She rode mostly hunters and jumpers up until her late teenage years. After moving to Texas in 2012, she developed an interest in the western disciplines. She started riding ranch, cutting, roping, and reined cow horses.

Forman completed an internship with Silver Spur Ranches and had the opportunity to work in both Wyoming and New Mexico. She started untouched yearlings, introduced 2- and 3-year-olds to ranch work, and rode high-quality cutting horses.

Forman later went on to work at several other operations in the Texas panhandle, mostly starting colts and refreshing broke horses for clients. She also worked with "TEXAS! The Outdoor Musical" preparing horses to perform in an outdoor theatre by acclimating them to fire, flags, guns, fireworks, loud music and big crowds. She even performed with the horses in the musical herself.

She moved back to New Jersey in 2015 to start her own business of training performance horses in Ocean and Burlington counties as well as southern Monmouth and Mercer counties.

She has two horses of her own, a retired 1998 solid sorrel Paint named Penny, and a 2015 buckskin quarter horse named Oakley, which she plans on showing in ranch riding and the versatility ranch horse division in the coming years.

During the Horse Park’s annual meeting Carol Oswold, Donna Younkin and Bruce McNabb were re-elected as board members.

The Horse Park of New Jersey is a 501(c )3 not-for-profit, charitable, educational organization that receives no money from the State of New Jersey. The Horse Park relies on sponsors, members, and volunteers to help keep its doors open.

Rutgers Hikes Tuition, Student Fees for 2018-2019 Academic Year
