DENVILLE, NJ-- In October of 2014 the district began looking at changing the start times and the busing from three tiers to two tiers. Tiers are the routes for each school, currently we operate on a three tier system which means each school is on its own schedule.
They are considering the move to a two tier system meaning Valleyview would have one schedule and Lakeview and Riverview would be on one schedule together. This would allow for better efficiency and better articulation between the two elementary school staffs.
The American Academy of Pediatrics conducted a study on the value of later school start times for adolescents which is being studied by the NJ Department of Education per NJ S2484. The district considered making some major changes to the start times for the schools but has since decided to make changes that are beneficial but not as intrusive to the Denville families.
We are now considering the following schedule for 2016/17:
Valleyview: 7:45 AM to 2:38 PM
Riverview and Lakeview: 8:20 AM to 3:13 PM
The schedule above will allow the district to take advantage of the increased instructional time that was negotiated in the current employment contracts, return Valleyview back to the original start time from 2014-15 and increase articulation among the Riverview and Lakeview staffs.
