DENVILLE, NJ – Denville Mayor Thomas Andes has issued a proclamation that names Saturday, May 18, 2019, “Relay for Life of Central Morris County Day.” Relay for Life of Central Morris County encompasses support from eight towns: Parsippany-Troy Hills, Denville, Rockaway Borough, Wharton, Mountain Lakes, Rockaway Township, Dover and Randolph Township.
Karen DeChristopher accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization. DeChristopher is a three-time cancer survivor whose mother died of the cancer DeChristopher has survived.
The 2019 American Cancer Society Relay for Life will take place on Saturday, May 18, at the Parsippany Hills High School, 20 Rita Drive, Parsippany, 4:30 - 11 p.m. Registration will begin at 3 p.m.
Relay for Life is a community event where teams and individuals come together to honor, celebrate and raise funds and awareness to free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer. Ninety-three percent of the money raised will help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today and fund continuous cancer research that will help protect future generations from all types of cancer. This year’s event is dedicated to Sean Ries, Hannah Cerullo and Emma Wyman, each of whom has battled a form of pediatric cancer. A portion of the proceeds will fund pediatric cancer research.
The theme for this year’s relay is “Superheroes.” There will be inspiring speakers (or Superheroes) who have been touched by cancer, special music, themed laps, a Frozen T-shirt contest, face-painting for children, games and other fun activities, entertainment throughout the course of the event, as well as food, beverages, goodies and so much more.
There are three points to every Relay for Life event – celebrate, remember and fight back. The celebration portion includes a special dinner for any cancer survivor and his or her caregiver. The remembrance portion includes a moving Luminaria Ceremony in honor of friends and loved ones lost to cancer. The entire event is a way of fighting back against cancer by raising the much needed funds.
