DENVILLE, NJ -- The Township of Denville issued mandatory township-wide odd/even water restrictions, effective Thur., June 25 through Sept. 15, 2020, unless otherwise extended. In its advisory to the residents on Wed., June 24, the township stated the restrictions will ensure water sufficiency to meet more critical indoor water use and firefighting needs. The township mandated the restrictions described below.
1. Customers of the Denville Water Utility may only water their lawn between the hours of midnight and 5:00 a.m. Automatic irrigation systems must be set to only water during those hours on the days that correspond to residents' address numbers.
2. Residents who water their lawns manually with a hose or a sprinkler attached to a hose may only water between the hours of 11 a.m. to midnight on odd or even days based on the residents' address numbers.
3. Residents are prohibited from washing their automobiles, equipment or engaging in other high-volume, outdoor, water-usage activities except on odd or even days based on the residents' address numbers.
The advisory further stated that residents who recently planted sod are exempt from the restrictions for ten (10) days after planting. Shrubs, flowers and trees may be watered on any day, at any time with a hand-held hose with a nozzle and automatic shutoff.
The restrictions apply to all Denville Water Utility customers. The restrictions do not apply to property owners who use sources of water other than the township’s water system (e.g., rain barrels, private wells, etc.).
According to the advisory, individuals who violate these water restrictions may be subject to penalties.
