SEATTLE, WA - On July 1, over 4000 athletes and coaches, 10,000 volunteers and many spectators representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia Special Olympics programs gathered at the University of Washington to celebrate the 2018 USA games. Team New Jersey participated in 14 olympic-type events.
One athlete from Florham Park brought home multiple gold medals in a sport he has loved and grown in for over a decade. Steven Kryspin has participated in powerlifting since 2006 and continues to beat his personal best year after year. According to Special Olympics Team New Jersey, Kryspin lifted a combined total of 1,230 pounds earning him four gold medals.
His coach Tom Brennan has worked with Kryspin for several years now and said "he simply doesn't know his limitations..breaking records and beating expectations is business as usual."
The USA games ended July 7 and the athletes have returned home. Kryspin will continue to train, break records and beat his own expectations.
