ROXBURY, NJ – Franklin Elementary School was the randomly-drawn winner this month of a nationwide promotion related to recycling. The win means an Entenmann's-based classroom party for the school.

The school pledged to help the environment by using recycling to reduce waste. It did so as part of the "Entenmann’s Little Bites Make the Pledge Promotion," a contest conducted in partnership with Terra Cycle, a Trenton-based recycling company.

For being picked as the winner, the school won a “fun-filled” classroom party kit containing Entenmann’s Little Bites products and reusable Entenmann’s Little Bites water bottles, said Terra Cycle spokeswoman Veronica Rajadnya.

“The school pledged to reduce waste during April, which is Earth Month,” Rajadnya said. Students collected the bags, or pouches, that contained Entenmann’s Little Bites and saved them for recycling.

“We created a recycling station with a bin dedicated to Little Bites packaging in the lunch room and a station in the hallway where kids can drop off their collections every day when they enter the school,” said Gabriella Pereira of the school’s parent-teacher association. “Children need to see, hear and feel to learn and remember things. If we can make recycling fun, it eventually becomes habit.”

The Entenmann's Little Bites: Make the Pledge Promotion was launched Jan. 15 nationwide to schools, businesses and individuals participating in the Entenmann’s Little Bites Recycling Program, said Rajadnya. “Participants who sent in a 5-pound shipment of pouches were automatically awarded 100 bonus TerraCycle points redeemable for a cash donation to the non-profit or charity of the collector’s choice; a second 5-pound shipment of pouches earned pledgees three exclusive, $5 coupons and three plush Entenmann's Little Bites dogs.”

“The sustainability of our future and environment is so important for the children of generations to come,” said Kim Bremer, director of marketing for Entenmann’s Little Bites, in a press release. “Entenmann’s Little Bites feels honored and proud to stand next to TerraCycle in such an important global issue.”

The Entenmann’s Little Bites Recycling Program has prevented about 2.5 million Little Bites pouches from being dumped in landfills and raised nearly $40,000 that was donated to schools and charities, according to Rajadnya.
