MORRISTOWN, NJ – Morris Knolls girls basketball garnered back-to-back victories with its 54-38 win against Villa Walsh on Saturday, Jan. 19. The night before, the Golden Eagles defeated Wallkill Valley, 55-37.

Emily Mitarotonda improved upon Friday’s performance with 21 points (which included a three-pointer and six free throws), four assists, three rebounds, seven steals and two blocks in Saturday’s game. Once again, she was the game’s leading scorer.

Other Morris Knolls contributors included Annie Nolan who netted 10 points, Gabby Perna earned nine points, Bri Mennella had eight, Brielle Gavito got four and Cayla Jones added one.

For Villa Walsh, Kate Gehringer made the most baskets and was the only player on her team to score in double digits with 11 points.

Showing better execution defensively, seven Morris Knolls players grabbed at least two rebounds while six players made at least two steals.

As with Friday’s game, Team Captain Maddison Perna and Kate Walsh did not play Saturday because both are still in Florida for a national soccer tournament.

Looking to continue their winning ways, the 6-7 Golden Eagles will host Morris Hills on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. is a member of the New Jersey Press Association and is a hyperlocal news site that serves residents, organizations and business owners of Denville, New Jersey.
