DENVILLE, NJ – The Morris Knolls boys ice hockey team defeated Morristown-Beard decisively, 6-1, on Fri, Dec 6, at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown, during Knolls’s second outing of the season.
Despite getting the first goal less than one minute into the second period, Morristown-Beard was no threat to the Golden Eagles. After going scoreless in the first period, Morris Knolls dominated the second period with four goals, adding two more in the final period to boot.
Four players scored for Morris Knolls. Andrew Ryan netted the puck first, assisted by Dylan Idland and Timmy Kepler.
Jason Kwestel finished the game with a hat trick. He scored two goals in the second period and one in the third. Ryan assisted on the first goal. Ryan and Bryan McCarter assisted on the second. James Betz and Ryan assisted on the third goal.
Gehrig Eckoff ended the second period with a goal, assisted by Ryan and Kwestel.
Jake Quinn got the scoring rolling 3:24 minutes into the third period. J.D. Florio earned the assist.
Freshman goalie Elliot Marken protected the net for Morris Knolls with 24 saves.
For Morristown-Beard, DJ Layden scored the team’s only goal, assisted by Seth Kaplan and Billy Moloney. Morristown-Beard goalie Luke McManus had 25 saves.
The 1-1 Golden Eagles, who fell to Ramapo, 2-1, in their season opener, will face Chatham (0-2) on Tue, Dec 10, at 8 p.m., at Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown.
