MORRISTOWN, NJ – A Mine Hill man who repaired radios for the Morris County Department of Law and Public Safety pleaded guilty Friday to charges he stole six radios from the department, said officials.

The man, James Masker, 30, admitted to taking the radios from a storage area to which he had access, said a statement from Morris County Prosecutor Frederic Knapp. After removing the devices, Masker “distributed them to private individuals,” said the prosecutor.

In an online profile, Masker described himself as a radio repairer for the Morris County Communications Center, part of the county Office of Emergency Management. He is also an U.S. Army veteran, says the profile.

“All of the radios have been recovered,” said Knapp. “The investigation did not discover any evidence that any public safety agency or any public safety transmissions were compromised by the theft.”

Masker pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking or disposition, a disorderly person offense. He entered the plea before state Superior Court Judge James DeMarzo who sentenced him to a year of probation with a condition that he complete 25 hours of community service.

“As part of the negotiated plea, the defendant resigned his position and was barred from any future public employment,” said the prosecutor.
