DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls High School Principal Ryan MacNaughton announced Hannah Fortune of Rockaway as the school’s Class of 2019 Valedictorian and Nicholas Baranello of Rockaway Township as its Salutatorian during the annual Senior Awards Program on June 11.

Fortune, who currently has a seven-semester average of 103.6271, has completed 14 Honors-level classes and 11 Advanced Placement courses. She scored 760 and 750, respectively, on the critical reading and math portions of the SAT and 34 on the ACT. Fortune is a National Merit Commended Scholar, a four-time Summa Award recipient, and a member of five honor societies.

Active in numerous school clubs, Fortune also instructs math, coaches cheerleading and participates in many volunteer projects. She also played varsity lacrosse and cheered on the varsity squad.

This fall, Fortune will attend the University of Connecticut as a student in its Honors College.

Equally impressive, Senior Class President Baranello has an average of 103.1897 after seven semesters and will earn 160 credits upon graduation. He has successfully completed 13 Honors-level classes and 10 Advanced Placement courses. He scored 750 and 730, respectively, on the math and critical reading portions of the SAT and 35 on the ACT.

In addition to serving as president of the National Honor Society, Baranello is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, Math Honor Society, English Honor Society, and Science Honor Society. Baranello also played varsity football for the Golden Eagles.

In September, Baranello will attend the University of Maryland as a member of its Honors College.

Fortune and Baranello will bid farewell to their fellow classmates on Friday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. is a member of the New Jersey Press Association and is a hyperlocal news site that serves residents, organizations and business owners of Denville, New Jersey.
