ROCKAWAY, NJ – Morris Knolls girls varsity soccer keeps doing what it does best … winning. The team defeated Mendham on Oct. 10 with a single goal in the second half by junior Madison Palma, assisted by sophomore Presley Anderson. Junior goalie Kate Walsh had five saves in the 1-0 victory.
In tournament play, the second-seed Golden Eagles defeated 15-seed Morristown-Beard (3-0) in the first round and 10-seed Parsippany Hills (2-1) in the quarterfinal round. Against Morristown-Beard, Anderson and seniors Maddison Perna and Kyra Bernardez scored goals in the second half. Perna and sophomore Meghan Ghalain had one assist apiece, and Walsh made two saves. Against Parsippany Hills, Palma scored two goals in the second half, assisted by Perna and junior Rebecca Racine. Walsh had five saves.
As it advances to a repeat championship, Morris Knolls will face third-seed Hanover Park at home in the semifinal round on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Knolls has lost only one game the entire season and has the top ranking in its conference division. Its division record is 6-1. Its overall record is 11-1.
