DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls varsity ice hockey, wrestling and girls basketball earned victories while boys basketball fell to their opponents over the weekend.

Gehrig Eckoff earned a hat trick in Morris Knolls ice hockey’s 5-2 victory over Mendham on Fri., Feb. 7, at the Ice Vault Arena in Wayne. Jake Quinn and Jason Kwestel also scored goals for the Golden Eagles. Contributing with assists were Andrew Ryan (4), Kwestel (3) and Eckoff (1). Goalie Elliot Marken had 24 saves. Friday’s victory extended the team’s winning-streak to five. The Golden Eagles (13-5-3) will face Madison (8-12-1) in the Mennen Cup on Thur., Feb. 13, at 8:15 p.m. at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown.

Morris Knolls wrestling defeated neighboring rival Morris Hills, 33-18, at home on senior and alumni night on Fri., Feb. 7. Nine wrestlers earned wins for the Golden Eagles: Lenny Cocca (113 lbs.), Shane Perry (132 lbs.), Jack Wemmlinger (138 lbs.), Gavin Braun (145 lbs.), David Turner (152 lbs.), Mikey Secallus (160 lbs.), Thomas Rooney (170 lbs.), Ronan Buckingham (195 lbs.) and Kevin Walter (220 lbs.). Cocca and Walter got pins while everyone else scored by decision. The 12-4 Golden Eagles will return to the mat on Mon., Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. as the fourth seed in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4, Tournament. They will host fifth-seed Northern Highlands (14-1).

Morris Knolls boys basketball fell to Verona, 53-35, on Sat., Feb. 8, at home. Stephen Carri led the Golden Eagles with 14 points. Morris Knolls (3-13) will face Morris Hills (7-10) on the road on Tue., Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.

Tenth-seed Morris Knolls girls basketball defeated seventh-seed Morristown-Beard, 56-49, in the first round of the Morris County Tournament on Sat., Feb. 8, in Morristown. Kate Walsh earned the team high with 15 points. Morris Knolls (9-10) advances to the quarterfinal round of the tournament to face two-seed Chatham (14-4) on Sat., Feb. 15, at Morris Knolls High School in Denville (game time to be determined). In regular season play, the Lady Eagles will host Whippany Park (8-10) on Tue, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m.
