DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls varsity ice hockey and girls basketball dominated their opponents over the weekend while boys basketball fell to its neighboring rival.

In its second encounter of the season against Madison, boys ice hockey shut out Madison, 9-0, on Fri., Jan. 10, at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown. Jeffrey Quinn and Gehrig Eckoff scored two goals each. Andrew Ryan, J.D. Florio, Kyle Thornton, Derek Coleman and James Betz earned one goal apiece. In an attempt to extend its winning streak to four, Morris Knolls (7-3-2) will face Morristown (6-6-2) on Wed., Jan. 15, for a 4 p.m. start at Mennen Sports Arena.

The Lady Eagles garnered back-to-back victories, winning by double-digits in both games.  The girls defeated Roxbury, 58-33, on the road Fri., Jan. 10, doing most of their damage in the second quarter. Emily Mitarotonda led the team with 20 points. Gabby Perna and Maddie Knaack contributed 16 and 14, respectively, with Perna earning all 16 from three-pointers.

In a slightly more competitive game at home on Sat., Jan. 11, the Lady Eagles defeated North Hunterdon, 41-29. Mitarotonda again led the way with a game high of 16, and Perna swished three three-pointers. Morris Knolls (5-4) next plays Chatham (7-2) at home Tue., Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.

Morris Knolls boys basketball fell to Morris Hills by two points, 31-29, at home on Fri., Jan. 10. Despite trailing 19-13 at the half, Morris Hills managed to turn the game around in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind victory.

“We had a great first half,” noted Morris Knolls Head Coach Matt Brogan. “Everybody played really hard to the end.”

With a 1-5 record, the boys basketball team will face undefeated West Morris Central (8-0) on the road Tue., Jan. 14, at 7 p.m.
