DENVILLE, NJ – Morris Knolls girls tennis, football and girls volleyball notched victories over the weekend while field hockey and girls soccer suffered defeats.
The Golden Eagles girls varsity tennis team shut out Mount Olive, 5-0, at home on Fri., Oct. 11. Morris Knolls’s Nofar (Lily) Katzav defeated Charmaine Thomas 6-2, 6-0; Emily Egan defeated Kayla Tenysen 6-0, 6-0; Skylar Walder defeated Vershini Chinthareddy 6-0, 6-3; Isabel Jones and Amanda Grove defeated McKenzie Lynch and Meghan Gewant 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-8); and Meghan Chegwidden and Gabrielle Thomas defeated Megan McGrath and Henita Lawrence 6-2, 6-0. The 12-5 Golden Eagles will play their final match of the regular season against Sparta (10-2), date and time to be determined.
Morris Knolls football outscored Morristown, 31-21, on Sat., Oct. 12, at Morristown, putting points on the board in three of four quarters. Patrick Sinegra owned the first and third quarters. He scored a 65-yard touchdown run off an interception, the extra point and a field goal, to grab a 10-0 lead for Morris Knolls in the first quarter. Sinegra expanded the lead in the third quarter with 25- and 55-run touchdowns and by nailing the extra point after both. Sean Beller sealed the deal for the Golden Eagles with a seven-yard run touchdown in the fourth quarter; Sinegra connected on the point after. The 3-2 Golden Eagles will host Roxbury (2-4) at home on Senior Day, Sat., Oct. 19. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
Girls volleyball shutout Madison (25-20, 25-15) on the road on Sat., Oct 12. Earning service points for the Golden Eagles were Skye Eppel (7), Casey Heitmann (5), Annie Nolan (5), Reagan Smith (3), Nicole Florey (2) and Lea Mackey (2). Eppel had 17 digs. Nolan made 21 assists. Mackey had 10 kills. The 8-8 Golden Eagles will face Randolph (5-10) at home on Tue., Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.
Morris Knolls field hockey fell to Hackettstown, 4-0, on the road Sat., Oct. 12. Goalies Jordan Cifrodella and Margaret Jancerak had two and nine saves, respectively. The 6-7-1 Golden Eagles will play Wallkill Valley (5-7-3) on the road, Mon., Oct. 14, at 4 p.m.
Advancing to the semifinals of the Morris County Tournament, five-seed Morris Knolls girls soccer ultimately ended their run to top-seed Randolph in penalty kicks (3-1) after two overtime periods on Sun., Oct. 13., at Mount Olive High School. The Lady Eagles will resume regular season play when they face Mendham (3-9-1) at home on Mon., Oct. 14, at 4 p.m.
