Morris Knolls Wrestling: Fortune Wins 160 lb. Class, Team Sends Three to Regions

PASSAIC VALLEY, NJ –Three Morris Knolls wrestlers are one step closer to a coveted trip to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall.

By way of a top 3 finish in Saturday’s NJSIAA District 8 Individual Wrestling Tournament, Connor Fortune (160 pounds), Jacob Cougle (170 pounds) and Shane Beston (285 pounds) each earned a trip to the NJSIAA Region 1 tournament next week at Mount Olive High School.

Fortune led the way for Morris Knolls wrestlers, taking home first place in the 160-pound weight class by pinning Wayne Valley’s Dean Zindaki at the 3:08 mark to secure the championship victory.

In the 170-pound class, Cougle lost a 10-7 decision to Hopotcong senior Jake Wilkerson to place second.

Beston fell to Montville’s Parker Fox in the 285-pound championship bout.

Jack Wemmlinger (113 pounds) and Wade Drugac (220 pounds) fell just short of the region tournament by placing fourth in their weight class.

Here is a list of Montville’s top 4 finishers. The top 3 of each class advance to next week’s Region 1 tournament at Mount Olive High School.

113: 4th place Jack Wemmlinger

160: 1st Place Connor Fortune

170: 2nd Place Jacob Cougle

220: 4th Place Wade Drugac

285: 2nd Place Shane Beston
