DENVILLE, NJ – The Morristown High girls basketball team is heading back to the Morris County Tournament for the third straight season.
In quarterfinal round action on Saturday night, the Colonials steamrolled eighth-seeded Morris Knolls by a 60-34 to improve their record to 17-2 on the season. The game was played on the Knolls court, as the Rockaway gym has been the neutral site of the quarterfinal round for more than a decade now.
Morristown now advances to play NJAC-United rival Chatham—a 46-33 winner over Montville in their quarter—in Friday night’s semifinal tilt at CCM. Morristown has previously defeated Chatham handily in two divisional games this year.
Junior guard Elizabeth Strambi again led all scorers with 19 points in this one, and pulled down seven rebounds in the process. Freshman guard Tara O’Neill added 12 for the winners, whose next leading scorer was center Kayla Bush with 8 tallies.
